Tis the season

Why do some organizations make you fill out an application rather than (or, in addition to) providing a resume? I found out through an online typing test (the application wanted to know) that I can type 75 words a minute. But, a paper application would be better off with a kindergardener who colored it. Hope that doesn't stop them from hiring me. On the topic, do they make parchment colored white out?

The time change and advent of fall makes me want to stay inside, drink warm alcoholic beverages, gain weight and watch movies.

Last night we made a brief cameo at a friend's party. We were on the bus on our way home by midnight. At the stop by my alma matter undergrad school, a huge group of drunken college students in scant costumes boarded. They carried various soft drinks in plastic containers. Perfect for pouring out half, pouring in half cheap alcohol, and carrying around in public.

A numbers post

3 - the number of times I have been sick in the past three months
5:30 - the time I woke up to read evidence this morning
7:30 - the time I finished evidence and decided to sleep for 20 minutes before I got up and ready for school

I had a lot more of these planned, but then bored myself and felt really sorry for the 4 readers I have left.

My blog is lacking funny MUNI stories because I've been driving all semester. Now that trial practice is over, I'll be back on the bus and maybe things will pick up around here. Besides the lack of bus stories, people have been working on our building and yard so I can't complain about the myriad ways our building violates health codes. And, I'm too busy and or sick to be insightful on any level...

Home

The competition is over. It went well for the most part. Our team didn't win, but we put on good trials. The other team from our school advanced to the semi finals and did well. We celebrated at a fun sports bar in beautiful, sunny, San Diego.

I am exhausted. Had all kinds of plans to be active with the husband. Ended up sleeping in late. Took the dog to the park. Now we're about to lounge on the couch and watch a movie. Speaking of movies, a surprising feature of the Best Western in San Diego was their pay per view movie selection. We ordered Little Miss Sunshine at about 1 am on Friday. Loved it.

More lows and highs

I argued my second motion yesterday. Complete train wreck. Everyone was very "oh, you did a good job" about it, but they were lying to make me feel better. I know when I do well and when I don't. Friday, I didn't. I am dissapointed and sad about it. One attorney, who didn't see it made a very helpful point. She said that of course I could have done better but I did the best I could in that moment. That's true, but if I want this job, I need to get better in those moments. Otherwise I will be drinking far too many Greyhounds at dive bars.

I got a second callback. For a job I really want. I'm not saying anything else about it because I don't want to screw it up.

Competition is this week. All day practice tomorrow. We're leaving Thursday am. Let the anxiety and nausea commence!

I'm a driver; I'm the winner; Things are gonna change, I can feel it

I argued and won my first motion (or really, opposition) in front of the court today. Only, really, there wasn't much argument on my part. The scope of my motion got limited. So, I asked about 10 questions. Opposing counsel cross examined my witness. The judge basically told me I had no redirect. He let opposing counsel (who brought the motion) make an argument and then denied it.

I also won a small home victory today when husband threw away the biggest, grossest, most annoying plastic Giants cup ever -- the one that doesn't fit in our dish washer or our cabinets.

Side note: I've now been told in trial advocacy settings that I'm a "fierce" "fuck-you" type person. Interesting because I see myself as goofy and self deprecating.

Houston, we have a callback.

It's for a job in my home town. Oddly, they don't have the callbacks until December which presents some logistical (namely, I'm in the middle of finals) issues. BUT, it is a callback for a good job that pays. So, hurrah!
